Statement on Plagiarism

Students are reminded that work submitted as part of any assessment or examination at Forth Valley College of Further & Higher Education, or any of its Centres, must be expressed in their own words, thoughts, ideas and judgements.  Any work that is not original or that does not acknowledge the sources, by way of referencing or use of quotation marks, will be regarded as 'plagiarism.'   See the Student Information Sheet 'What is Plagiarism?'

 

Plagiarism occurs when you:

 

  • Copy word for word from a text
  • Paraphrase the word of a text very closely
  • Use text downloaded from the Internet
  • Use statistics or assembled facts without acknowledging the source
  • Copy or download figures, photographs, images, diagrams without acknowledging the source
  • Copy from the Lecturer Notes
  • Copy essays from another student
  • Pay for work and submit it as your own
  • Submit assessments worked on jointly or in collaboration with others (except where collaboration is part of the assignment)
  •  

Accidental plagiarism may occur due to inexperience and students are advised to read the Student Information Sheet 'What is Plagiarism?' carefully.

 

Plagiarism will be viewed as a serious assessment issue and disciplinary procedures will be followed which can incur a range of penalties.
